Roof Maintenance Tips To Prevent Roof Damage

Repairing or replacing a roof can be expensive. Therefore, it makes sense to take up a roof maintenance plan to avoid making costly roof improvements. Spending few minutes, after every six months to closely look at your roofs will help you identify the areas which require improvements.  This way you can also check your home insurance to ensure serious roof damages are covered in your insurance policy.

When you check the condition of your roofs, always look at the condition of the shingles.  Shingles play a pivotal role in keeping the entire roofing system dry. Missing shingles can pose significant problems, when left unattended and can result in severe damage to the roofs. Shingles get damaged when severe wind and hail storms strike your roofs.  Trees that are growing too close to your house can also cause damage to your roofs.  Always check for overhanging tree limbs or broken limbs, which,  when fall on your roofs can cause great damage to it.

Flashings are a prime target for leaks because it is covering a hole in the roof.  Always check the flashings around the chimneys, exhaust pipes and vents. Ensure they are not punctured or bent in any form.  Another thing that can cause significant damage to your property are blocked gutters. Therefore, keep a check on your drains and ensure they remaining in good working condition, else, they may cause damage to your roofs.

You can take several steps to maintain your roofs in the good condition. However, you may also take up a roof maintenance plan with some reputed roofing company of your region. Matthew Lamz is one such highly skilled and experienced roofing contractor based in Austin, delivering exceptional roofing services to the residents of Austin and around.

  1. Checking the condition my shingles are in seems like a great way to inspect my roof. That's a way of maintaining my roof that I need to work on. There was a storm that hit my house last night that left a small leak coming from the attic. I'm guessing that a few broken shingles allowed water to seep through my roof. I'll do better about inspecting it to prevent leaks in the future. Thanks for the tips!
